Shallow Breath

Shallow Breath

Breathe in, Breathe out

Shallow breath is all I know

I cannot remember the day when they got so shallow

That it felt

As if I was drowning.

Gasping for air

Yet every time I come up

It's never enough.

Shallow breath

I don't remember them always being so shallow

So shallow, that I felt bound.

Tied by my hands and feet

Bound down with nothing for me to do

But wish the next one will be it.

Knot in my throat

Dips down like a rollercoaster

Into the pit of my stomach

Rock bottom as the echo bounces

Throughout my body of the hollowness

That is me.

Shallow breath

The truth is the day I try

To take it in

Inhale to fill the parts of me

That stayed hidden

for so many years.

As air filles up my lungs

it feels it's traveling through my body,

Every pulse the air

Getting deeper

and deeper

into me.

Parts of me that were in the dark,

Behind locked doors

Keys hidden away

It pounds so hard

That it's deafening.

Shallow breath

As I exhale and push away

The force to keep it hidden

But it's too late

The lights have been lit

With a small gust, it came to blow

Away the web of lies

I tell myself.

Shallow Breath

As it leaves my body,

My lung slowly starts to deflate

As I feel the air leave my body

The knot in my throat

is harder than ever.

The pit in my stomach turns

To churn out the last of the air.

As the last bit leaves my lips

I feel myself overcome

It quivers and before I know it

I feel the wet drop down my cheek.

Shallow Breath

As I try to hold my breathe

Trying to pause time

To keep myself from being consumed

I find out too late

That I am exposed

And I cannot go back

The gate was opened

Flooding everything in its path

With that every candle lit

Throughout my soul

As if to burn down

this invisible prison.

As I sit exposed

To myself

Parts of me that I lost

Parts I did not recognize

Parts of me I had forgotten

Exposed.

Alone.

Surrounded.

Until I can do nothing else

But stare into their eyes

And hold on to their hands.

Shallow Breath

And then I remember

The exact day

My breath shallowed.
