In This Wild

I see now

what I blinded myself to,

I feel now

what I numbed myself to.

As I sit here,

I embrace you,

with my open arms

and as fear takes over my body.

I embrace you.

You stand staring at me,

staring through my eyes

as if you are waiting for me

to claim my defeat.

Rocks tied to my sorrow

weigh my feet down,

to keep me running

from you.

The cold, I feel it

running up my body,

covering what was once

warm to the touch.

Step closer,

the fear has taken over

as I stand facing you

completely frozen.

Unknown you are to me,

have we met before?

so familiar you seem

but a stranger still to my eye.

We stare in silence,

as everything around us

turns to black

and yet we stand staring.

You are unknown to me,

but I embrace you,

even with my fear holding me.

Step closer because

I see the tears

you have cried,

and I see the scars you carry

and I will work

to heal your pain.

For now I see more clearly

I must heal and accept

to move forward and be strong,

so filled with fear I step closer

in this wild that is unknown to me,

for today I may be lost

but tomorrow I may find myself again.
