A Crosswalk

A crosswalk.

Hold your hands out,

look to your left and right.

All you see is darkness.

Your hands held out empty.

You look down at the ground,

darkness.

In a distance, you see a face,

you know that face.

They are walking towards you,

you yell out their name, no sound. You wave your arms to them,

maybe they'll see you now.

Tell you where you are.

Hold your hand out to them,

closer, they are closer.

Close enough to see their breath fog up.

Call out their name as they walk right past,

not even a flinch, could they not hear or see?

Call out but they do not turn,

turn to see me watch as they fade into the darkness.

Turn towards the crosswalk and back, gone.

They are gone, disappeared.

Gloomy figure, a figure you make out.

A friendly face you know,

Filled with relief you run towards

but they don't see to see you.

Call out to them, cry out.

You are face to face,

hold your hands out,

hoping they take it.

Not a budge as they brush on by,

watch as they walk off into the darkness

Just as the ones before them.

Stuck in this crosswalk,

you sit alone and lost again

until you can find some light.

You wait to see,

see if someone will take your hand

in their hand and show you the way,

the walk out of this crosswalk.
